Puttur, 2 April: Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Vice Chancellor of Nitte University inaugurated the newly built City Hospital Puttur, on 1 April.



Speakin on the occasion said that the medical use of modern technology to provide better care for patients.



He said that the services of doctors are met only by a good medical services to citizens. It is therefore an important task for physicians to provide adequate medical care for the people.



The local hospital was inaugurated by Dr. Prabhakar Bhat, Managing Director of the Division of Sothern RSS. The opening ceremony was honored by Sadananda Gowda, who Ganapathy P Naik, Gopinath Shetty Naik Jayakumar, Dandakeri Eknath, Shivananda Shet, Bhat Babu, Guruduth Pai, Harish Kumar, Rajesh Banaari, Dinesh Chowdhary and Sanjeev Poojary helped chaired by your good self the construction of hospitals, on the occasion.


Rajesh Banur, president of the company, has opened health card services. Minister Mallika Prasad, Vinay Kumar Sorake, priest Rev.Fr. Gerald D'Souza, BA Sathyamurthy, CEO of SBI, Mangalore, Haji Shafi Ummar, president of Ansarudeen orphanage, also attended the opening ceremony.


Dr. Bhaskar, CEO of the hospital welcomed. Vote of thanks by Dr. Suryanarayana delivered. The inauguration was attended by Prof Ramachandra Bhat NK-Co and VJ Fernandes.

Puttur Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple Chariot Festival
Chariot Festival of Mahotobhaara Shree Mahalingeshwara Temple, Puttur was held on April 17, 2010. 71 feet high Brahma Ratha or Chariot was the highlight this time. Though it rained heavily for about an hour during the night of Chariot festival and created a mess for the people gathered, once it stopped raining people gathered again with the same enthusiasm at the festival grounds. Before Chariot festival begins, there is cracker festival held, witnessed and applauded by thousands gathered. Sky filled with colors during this time, is a treat to watch. But this time, due to rains cracker festival began at about 11 pm. So I could not see the whole of the festival. Here are some of the photos from the festival.

In a shocking development, the nomination paper filed by the wife of block Congress president for the taluk Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) election was rejected during scrutiny. The nomination filed by Anita Shetty, wife of block Congress president, Hemanath Shetty, was rejected on Thursday, as her nomination papers did not bear the signatures of proposers. As a result, BJP got a seat in APMC without any effort.


Saja Radhakrishna Alva, a BJP candidate, has already been elected unopposed from cooperative sector to APMC. The BJP has improved its tally in APMC to two because of the above incident. BJP and Congress have been vying with other to have hold on APMC, administration of which had changed hands between these two parties in the past.


During scrutiny, Congress party representatives raised serious objections about the nomination filed by Sundar Poojary from Nettanige Mudnoor constituency on behalf of BJP. They argued that Sundar Poojary does not fall under the category of farmers. However, Sundar Poojary, with the help of two lawyers, proved that he can be considered a farmer.


For the 13 seats of APMC, 52 nominations have been filed. JD(S) has not entered the election fray here.

APMC poll results Resounding win of BJP-backed Sahakara Bharati candidates in the APMC polls in Puttur and Sullia on Sunday last is an apt answer to charges by Congress leaders that there has been no progress in Dakshina Kannada under BJP government, K Monappa Bhandary, BJP district unit spokesperson said here on Tuesday. While Sahakara Bharati won seven out of 13 seats in Sullia APMC, it bagged 10 out of 13 seats in Puttur APMC, he added.
