The State Government has approved a proposal from the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to construct a modern bus stand at Puttur in Dakshina Kannada district in the public-private partnership (PPP) model, sources inside the Mangalore Division from the KSRTC said.

This is among the most first PPP-model proposal approved for construction of an KSRTC bus stand here.

Puttur can be a prominent arecanut trading centre from the region. Being the taluk headquarters, it is usually a fast-developing town.

Sources, on condition of anonymity, said riding on the bus stand could well be built on 2.5 acres of land adjoining the prevailing one, which is not spacious enough to meet up with the requirements on the growing town.

They said the individual chosen to undertake the work gives you certain mandatory facilities. The agency would maintain commercial revenue earned because of the facilities (shops and hoardings) at public transit stand. However, it will have to pay KSRTC a particular royalty.

The KSRTC promises to entrust 100 schedules (one schedule may be the onward and return journey of the bus in the depot) daily to the next depot.

In addition, the depot at B.C. Road are going to be asked to handle 60 schedules per day. At present, its two depots from the city handle 276 schedules daily. The burden with the two depots is going to be shared from the third depot. It will help handle the process of city buses too, the sources said.

They said the district administration was prone to hand over six acres of land to KSRTC within several days so that a depot could possibly be built at Sullia. The KSRTC have also been planning on establishing a depot at Kukke Subramanya.

In addition, a bus stand would be also built at B.C. Road. Land amounting one.5 acres with the aim had been identified. The Mangalore City Corporation seemed to be planning to construct a modern bus stand at Uppinangady, the sources said.
